Design

Original, simple, visual and functional. Timeless design is integral to the quality of Tailfeather products. Bags are designed to fit the body and distribute weight comfortably. They feature phone pockets, computer pockets and key-ring clips.

Tailfeather pieces use only quality material with minimal paneling and strong seams. No zips, snap buttons or breakable parts are involved.

Tailfeather pieces are created to be passed on to future generations.

Craftsmanship

The Craftsmanship of Tailfeather begins in the design. Concepts created on paper and developed in the studio are refined on computer. Patterns are cut and then trimmed by hand. Panels are hand-stitched using 1mm waxed nylon thread. Custom-made, solid brass buttons and solid brass rivets are hand set. Edges are waxed and buffed, and branding and details are laser etched.

Leather

KANGAROO LEATHER

Renowned for its high tensile strength, the vegetable tanned Australian kangaroo leather is strong and lightweight. Each piece has it’s own distinctive colour, grain and natural markings.  Overtime the leather will polish and gradually darken as it absorbs the natural oils from your skin.  It will also soften with age.

TOP-GRAIN LEATHER

Chrome and vegetable tanned, 3-4 mm thick, specially selected and imported from Italy for Tailfeather. It does not fade and any marks or scratches can be easily fixed using a leather conditioner. The leather softens with age, but does not loose its shape.

Tailfeather recommends applying a leather conditioner to maintain water resistance, prevent drying out and cracking and to enhance ageing characteristics.

Textiles

Tailfeather use only 100% pure New Zealand sheep’s wool. The material remains un-dyed and in natural colours . It is is machine knitted and hand felted. To maximise durability, pieces are reinforced with industrial strength, 300 gsm polyester canvas.
